Daliya Khichdi

Dalia is the Hindi term for broken wheat which is known to be a very healthy ingredient - low in fat and cholesterol, high in iron and fibre and rich in carbohydrates. In this recipe dalia gets a delicious masala twist with added nutrition in the form of fresh vegetables. With a tasty and healthy breakfast like this, you are bound to have a good day.

Ingredients (1 cup = 250 ml)

  • Broken wheat soaked 1 cup
  • Ginger 1/2 inch piece
  • Green chillies 2
  • Onion chopped 1 medium
  • Oil 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tablespoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Green peas 1 cup
  • Tomato 1 medium

How to make recipe

1.Chop ginger finely. Cut green chillies and onion into large pieces. Heat oil in a non stick pan, add 1 cumin seeds and sauté till light brown.

2.Add ginger, green chillies and onion and sauté till lightly coloured. Drain and add dalia to the pan and mix. Add turmeric powder, salt and mix well. Add green peas and 3 cups water and mix. Cover and cook on the low heat till done. Cut tomato into large pieces and add. Mix well and serve hot.
